Overtime rules

Someone I know works for a company that has a policy which says that the first 54 hours of overtime per year are included in the base salary.

And they make it hard to compensate for overtime. You can only take off one day at a time, if it's two days in a row it already counts as holidays.

This is as stupid as it can get. Basically it's a reverse bonus. If you just stay your regular hours you get paid 54 hours overtime you did not actually work (remember, they're included in the base salary). And if you have the bad luck to have 50 hours at the end of the year they're set to zero - no money for you, my friend.

Pilzkenner (Mushroom App)

After a lot of delay my first real Windows Phone app is now published!

It's something totally different to the Kinect stuff I've done before. The app is called "Pilzkenner" which means "Person who knows a lot about mushrooms", or more literally "Knower of mushrooms".

It can be downloaded from the WP marketpace, I've also created a website for it it here.

There's a free version, a standard version and the pro version. I've begun working on it in April and used it myself while collecting mushrooms this fall.

Publishing Apps...

... is not for impatient people.

My 'real' app was rejected because it contains sensitive content which is not allowed in countries like China. You'll wonder yourself as soon as the app is online and you'll see what it's about.

Here's the original text:
"The application contains sensitive political content and includes countries listed in Group 1 within Application Certification Requirement 3.10 in its targeted distribution. "

So I have to resubmit it and just select the unrestricted markets. Maybe it will be published by the end of next week. Meanwhile I'm localizing it to English (right now it's German only).

First Windows Phone App

I hereby present to the world - my very first (published) Windows Phone app!

is a very simple Windows Phone app and actually I've only made this app to test the process how to get an app into the marketplace. The real app will hopefully follow shortly.

It lets you set a probability and then uses the built-in random generator to tell you if you win or lose. My colleagues and I have started to use it as a simple decision helper, asking it if we win when we do this or that :-)

Candescent NUI [20148]

I've uploaded a new version of Candescent NUI [20148].

You can download it here [binary] or [source].

Upgrade to Kinect SDK 1.6

I've updated the dll in the lib folder to the new version. No other changes were necessary.

IDisposable for IDataSourceFactory
IDataSourceFactory now implements IDisposable (call Dispose() instead of DisposeAll())

Near Mode Optional

The near mode is now optional (the Kinect SDK DataSourceFactory now takes an optional parameter in the constructor.

this.dataSourceFactory = new SDKDataSourceFactory(useNearMode: false);

And...  stay tuned for some other news! :-)
